This February, the first European local authority competition „ELAC for migrant elders” awarded innovative municipal initiatives for the improvement of the quality of life of migrant elders. The projects that were awarded made possible active ageing, empowerment and participation and approached migrant elders as equal partners. The results of the competition will be presented at the workshop.
The European Year for active ageing 2012 aims to encourage regions and towns, decision makers and civil society to explore new ways to support active ageing. At the workshop the European Commission will present its key points and aims.
The European Year is also useful in order to implement new strategies for the improvement of the quality of life of migrant elders in municipalities and towns.
The workshop offers the setting for these activities with the aim to:
- support mutual learning with the help of good practice examples;
- help to develop “practice into good practice” and to connect the examples from AAMEE and ELAC with interested local authorities;
- develop key points of a checklist for municipal initiatives that show how the quality of life of migrant elders can be improved;
- establish a network that will exchange experience beyond the workshop on the issues of empowerment, participation and mutual integration, transfer good practice in other municipalities and cities and discuss project ideas and funding possibilities for joint European projects. All participants are warmly invited to share concrete ideas.
The workshop is organised together with the Directorate-general employment, social affairs and inclusion of the European Commission that is responsible for the European Year for active ageing.
